Convert PNG to TIFF

A design or scan held as PNG has to be delivered as TIFF because that is what the print or archive specification says.

    What actually changes

PNG and TIFF are not the same picture in two wrappers.

Both formats are lossless, so this is a repackage. The pixels are identical; the container changes to one that supports multiple pages, CMYK, embedded ICC profiles and a much richer metadata model.

    Worth knowing first

PNG's alpha channel does not always survive the trip. TIFF can store an alpha channel, but plenty of print software ignores it or renders it as an unexpected white or black plate, so flatten deliberately rather than leaving it to chance.

    Questions

    PNG to TIFF, answered

Which TIFF compression should I use?

LZW or ZIP for lossless output. Uncompressed TIFF is only worth it for software too old to decode either.

Can I combine several PNGs into one TIFF?

Yes. TIFF supports multiple pages in one file, which is why document scanners produce it.
