Each page is rendered at a DPI you choose and encoded as JPEG. Vector text becomes pixels at that resolution and stops being selectable, searchable or scalable.
The DPI you pick is permanent. 150 is fine on screen and looks soft when printed; 300 is print-grade and roughly four times the bytes. Multi-page output arrives as a ZIP, because a JPEG holds one page.
