Convert DOCX to PDF

A CV, a contract or a report has to be sent somewhere it will look the same on every machine and cannot be casually edited.

    What actually changes

DOCX and PDF are not the same picture in two wrappers.

The document is laid out once by a rendering engine and the result is frozen into fixed pages. Fonts are embedded, so the recipient sees the typeface you used rather than a substitute. Text stays selectable and searchable.

    Worth knowing first

The layout is decided by the renderer, not by your copy of Word. If the document uses a font that is not embedded in it, the renderer substitutes, metrics change and pagination shifts, which is how a two-page CV becomes three. Embed your fonts or stick to common ones.

    Questions

    DOCX to PDF, answered

Why did my page count change?

Font substitution or a different default paper size. Check that the document specifies A4 or Letter explicitly rather than relying on a printer default.

Do tracked changes and comments show up?

They can, depending on the document's own display settings. Accept or reject changes and delete comments before converting anything you are sending out.

    Is the PDF editable afterwards?

Not as a document. That is usually the point. Convert it back to DOCX if you need to edit.
